'My team' - Sven Botman releases Newcastle United statement after injury bombshell
Newcastle United centre-back Sven Botman has vowed to return as a better player as he prepares to undergo surgery on a serious knee injury.
The Dutchman will be sidelined for a lengthy of period six to nine months after sustaining an ACL injury during last weekend's FA Cup exit to Manchester City.

Hide AdBotman had previously spent three months out with a similar issue earlier in the season when he elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan, rather than go under the knife.
He returned in December and has appeared 16 times since, however clearly struggled to replicate his best form. The 24-year-old will undergo surgery next week.
Posting on Instagram, Botman said: "It is difficult to accept that surgery is out of the question, after fighting so hard to avoid this step. The support and love I have already received means a lot to me.
"I won't be able to do what I love the most for a while, but after my knee problems recently, I know I will come out of this period as a better player. My team Newcastle United remain the most important and I will continue to support you every day.
"We are a family. Lots of love, Sven Botman."

Hide AdBotman previously revealed he played two games with a knee injury - AC Milan and Sheffield United - before the problem was first detected. An operation was discussed but the player opted against it after taking the advice of specialists.
He was out between September and December before making his return as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Fulham. However, there were questions surrounding his fitness after struggling to re-find his best levels.
