'Nasty' - Newcastle United handed new triple injury concern ahead of Everton clash

Newcastle United are set to make checks on three players ahead of the Premier League trip to Everton on Saturday.

The Magpies set up a Carabao Cup fourth round clash against Chelsea after Fabian Schar’s penalty earned them a 1-0 win over League Two side AFC Wimbledon last night.

Schar, who started the tie as captain, requested to come off in the closing stages while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka needed to withdraw at half-time following a collision with Omar Bugiel.

On Schar, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: “I think it was a couple of things. Hopefully he's OK. It was a bang to his ankle and a bit of tightness in his body.”

Explaining Dubravka’s problem, Howe said: “Martin has taken a nasty bang to his knee. We hope he's all right, but we'll wait and see how that settles down tomorrow. I don't know whether it's a knock or anything more serious.”

The Slovakian made his first appearance of the 2024-25 campaign with Howe revealing Nick Pope sat out through injury.

It is hoped Pope’s knee issue isn’t serious. His absence was severely felt last season when he missed five months because of a dislocated shoulder.

"We don't think it's serious, it's just a bit of swelling on his knee,” said Howe. “We’ll wait and see, hopefully not.”

Newcastle will also assess Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak ahead of the visit to Goodison Park.

Trippier started the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday but withdrew with suspected cramp. Isak, meanwhile, is struggling with a broken toe,
