The Magpies have been linked with an ambitious summer move for two French stars as they look to build on the momentum gained during the second half of the season.

Howe’s side have moved swiftly away from the Premier League bottom three as a productive January transfer window laid the foundations for majority upturn in form.

With their Premier League status now secured, United have reportedly placed two French stars at the top of their list of targets.

French outlet FootMercato have reported the Magpies are ready to reignite their interest in Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile after making a move for the centre-back earlier this season.

Monaco are believed to be looking for a fee of around £33.5million for the 21-year-old, who is seen as a viable alternative to Lille centre-back Sven Botman.

But perhaps the most eye-catching move reported is of interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s in-form winger Moussa Diaby.

The five-times capped France international has shone in the Bundesliga and has 16 goals and 11 assists in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Diaby is the subject of major interest from a number of clubs around Europe and is set to command a fee of around £50m - which would make him Newcastle’s record transfer if the Magpies decide to make a move.

Premier League rivals provide competition for Danish star

The Danish international midfielder resumed his playing career following a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 when he joined Brentford on a short-term deal earlier this season.

Eriksen made his first appearance for the Bees in their home defeat against Newcastle but he has enjoyed an otherwise positive start to his short spell with Thomas Frank’s side.

His current deal is set to come to an end in June and Newcastle have been credited with an interest in the playmaker.

However, iNews have reported former club Spurs are keen to secure the midfielder for a second spell after he departed for Inter Milan two years ago.

Eriksen played under Spurs boss Antonio Conte during his time at the San Siro and the duo could now be reunited at the end of the season.

Rangers are ready to offer a lucrative new deal to youngster Alex Lowry in an effort to warn off interest from Newcastle and a number of other clubs.

The 18-year-old midfielder has made four senior appearances for the reigning Scottish champions and has reportedly held talks with Newcastle over a summer move to Tyneside.

Manchester City have also been linked with a move for the youngster - but Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has confirmed he is keen to keep Lowry at the club.

Speaking to the Scottish Daily Express, he said: Alex is one of the big talents we have coming through from the academy and we are in talks for him to sign a new contract.
