The Magpies have been paired against arguably the toughest team in the entire competition in eight-time winners Manchester City.

The Citizens currently boast a 100 percent record in all competitions and they are aiming to win the Premier League for a record-breaking fourth time. Newcastle enter the contest in high spirits after a record-equalling 8-0 win over Sheffield United but they face a much tougher test against a City team who beat them 1-0 earlier in the season.

The upcoming clash is sandwiched between a busy period of Premier League action while both clubs are likely to rotate a few players as they keep an eye on next week’s Champions League schedule.

But when is Newcastle’s game against Manchester City and how can fans keep up to date with all of the action?

Newcastle United will face off against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday 27 September.

The clash will be played at St James’ Park where the two teams last played out an entertaining 3-3 draw in August 2022.

However, the Magpies have been beaten in both away clashes since then at the Etihad. The most recent of those came last month when Man City recorded a comfortable 1-0 win with Julian Alvarez grabbing the winner.

Newcastle United have been shown on TV for all of their games so far this season and that record continues in their home clash against Manchester City.

Coverage of the contest will begin at 7pm on Sky Sports Main Event and the match itself kicks off an hour later at 8pm.

Newcastle pulled off a shock 2-0 win against Manchester City in their last meeting in this competition back in 2013 and youngster Rolando Aarons and Frenchman Moussa Sissoko bagged the goals on that occasion.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has hinted at the possibility of rotation given his side’s busy schedule in days to come.

The Magpies face Burnley in the Premier League this weekend before hosting French champions PSG at St James’ Park on Tuesday.

New signings Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are both in contention to play at full back, but Howe’s men will be without Harvey Barnes who came off injured against Sheffield United.

Other notable absentees are Joelinton, Joe Willock and Emil Krafth.

The visitors will be without key midfielder Rodri who was sent off in his side’s victory over Nottingham Forest. While Kevin De Bruyne also remains a long term absentee.
