The likes of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone are believed to have been discussed as potential targets for the summer transfer window.

But one new name has been thrown into the mix after Turkish outlet Fanatik revealed the Magpies were showing an interest in Trabzonspor captain Ugurcan Cakir.

The 26-year-old stopper is rated at around £17million by the Superlig club and is also attracting the interest of Premier League rivals Leeds United.

However, it has been suggested the Whites will only up their interest if current number one Illan Meslier departs Elland Road this summer.

Cakir’s agent and brother spoke about his future recently, saying: “(Clubs in) Spain and England are among those who are interested in Ugurcan.

“The Premier League would be nice.

“The English Premier League is the most prestigious league in the world. It is the dream of all football players to play there. It would be nice if there was a Premier League (club who sign him).

“If not, other leagues are not leagues to be ignored.”

Argentina international Paulo Dybala is set to become one of world football’s most in-demand free agents this summer when his current deal comes to an end.

Dybala has already identified AC Milan as his preferred destination if he remains in Serie A according to Italian outlet Correire Dello Sport.

But his preference is to move away from Italy and the report goes on to suggest Newcastle and Arsenal have already made their interest known to the player’s representatives.

Bundesliga defender remains a target

Newcastle were consistently linked with a move for Mainz defender Jeremiah St Juste during the January transfer window.

Despite a reported unsuccessful bid, the Magpies remain keen on the pacy centre-back, according to German news outlet Fussball Transfers.

However, they will face competition from Premier League rivals Leicester City and West Ham United with a price tag of around £10m suggested in the piece.

Magpies to compete with Villa for Hungary international

Attila Szalai was another defender linked with Newcastle earlier this season as they looked to boost their defensive ranks.

The Hungarian international is set to feature for Fenerbache this weekend when they face derby rivals Galatasaray.
