The 2022-23 campaign has been a success for Eddie Howe’s men currently, who sit fifth in the league table and just two points off the top four with two games in hand over fourth place Tottenham Hotspur.
While Howe won’t admit European qualification is on the cards, namely Champions League football, United’s fate is in their own hands as they head into the remaining 12 games of the season.
During the two-week international break, our writer Jordan Cronin sat down to dish out his player ratings from the term so far. Let us know whether you agree, or disagree with his marks:
1. Emil Krafth - N/A
Krafth’s season was just three games old before he picked up that ACL injury at Tranmere. The Swede is unlikely to play again until next season. Photo: Gualter Fatia
2. Mark Gillespie - N/A
Gillespie was left out of the club’s 25-man Premier League squad for the first-half of the campaign before a couple of January exits forced Eddie Howe to recall him. As fourth choice, he’s extremely unlikely to play.
3. Harrison Ashby - N/A
The right-back is yet to feature for the Magpies, or be named in a matchday squad, since completing his January move from West Ham United. Photo: PAUL ELLIS
4. Ryan Fraser - 2
A disastrous campaign for Fraser, who has fallen out with Howe and been told to train with the under-21s. Unless something changes, his Newcastle career is over. Photo: Jan Kruger
