Newcastle United 25-man Premier League squad as midfielder expected to be left out

Newcastle United are required to submit a 25-man squad to the Premier League following the closure of the summer transfer window.

It was difficult start to the summer for the Magpies after being forced to offload both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively, in order to comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and avoid a points deduction.

As part of PSR/ Anderson agreement with Forest, United signed Odysseas Vlachodimos for an undisclosed fee and confirmed the arrival of another goalkeeper in John Ruddy, who signed a one-year contract following his release from Birmingham City.

Lewis Hall’s loan move from Chelsea was made permanent for an initial £28million while Lloyd Kelly joined on a free transfer from AFC Bournemouth. And when Will Osula - a back-up striker to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson - arrived from Sheffield United for £15million on August 8, few could have imagined that would be the club’s final signing of the summer.

Newcastle have recently sanctioned further exits with the likes of Harrison Ashby, Joe White and Jamal Lewis leaving on loan. Meanwhile, Ryan Fraser has re-joined Southampton on a permanent basis while Isaac Hayden is still looking for a new club so is expected to be left out of the squad.

Here’s the 25-man squad that is expected to be submitted to the Premier League.

Note: Players born on or after January 1, 2003 do not need to be named in a Premier League 25-man squad and no more than 17 players who do not fill the homegrown player criteria can be included.
