Newcastle United equalled their biggest-ever Premier League victory with an 8-0 win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, which featured eight different scorers.
Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Anthony Gordon, Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes and substitute Alexander Isak were on the scoresheet. The last team United netted eight against? Sheffield Wednesday.
Eddie Howe made four changes to his starting XI from the midweek draw against AC Milan in the Champions League.
Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff retained their places with Sandro Tonali, Jacob Murphy, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon making way for Elliot Anderson, Miguel Almiron, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes.
Barnes was forced off through injury just 11 minutes in and his replacement Gordon quite literally played a hand in the first goal as Longstaff put United in front.
And the second goal wasn’t without controversy either. A shot at goal hit Fabian Schar’s arm before Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham tipped the effort over. From the resulting Trippier corner, Burn headed home the back post.
Another Trippier set-piece four minutes later saw Newcastle add a third with 35 minutes gone as Botman headed home his first goal since arriving from Lille last summer.
Howe’s side scored another five goals in the second half with Wilson, Gordon, Almiron, Guimaraes and Isak recording a devastating Magpies wins.
