'Forever grateful' - Youngster issues heartfelt farewell message after Newcastle United exit confirmed

A long-serving Newcastle United academy player has issued a heartfelt farewell message to the club.

Newcastle United academy player Matty Taylor has confirmed his departure from the club on social media.

The 18-year-old midfielder was a regular in Newcastle’s Under-18s side and also featured for the club in the UEFA Youth League. He also won the club’s Scholar of the Year for the 2025/26 season just a couple of months before his departure and was presented the award by club legend, Alan Shearer.

Taylor had been at Newcastle’s academy since the age of eight, but will now be free to find a new club this summer following his release.

Speaking about his exit from Newcastle, Taylor wrote: “After 10 years at this club my journey comes to an end. A huge thank you to all the coaching staff at Newcastle United for their support in my career so far and developing me as a player.

“Finally, a big thank you to all of my teammates who I have played along side over the years. I will be forever grateful for the memories made and the experiences @nufc.”

Taylor’s former Under-18s teammate Mason Miley, who has featured twice for Newcastle’s first team this pre-season, commented: “Top man, pleasure being with you all these years.”

Newcastle have made moves to strengthen their academy so far this summer with the signings of Kyran Thompson from Arsenal and Kyle Healy-Matthews from West Ham United.
