Newcastle United’s pre-season tour of Tokyo has been sponsored.

Savvy Games Group - a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia - are the club’s Official Tour Sponsor. Savvy is a games and esports company “formed with a mission to drive the long-term growth and development of esports and the broader games industry worldwide.”

Savvy confirmed their partnership with the Magpies via LinkedIn earlier this week.

“We are proud to announce that Savvy is partnering with Newcastle United Football Club on their summer tour in Japan, as they take on Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama Marinos this week,” the post read.

“Through this partnership, we are excited to continue showcasing our business in one of the most important games markets globally, following our successful trip to Tokyo earlier this year. Good luck to Newcastle United on these highly anticipated pre-season fixtures.”

Newcastle were late in confirming Savvy as a sponsor after it wasn’t announced until Thursday afternoon.

Uploading to X, United wrote: “Introducing our Official Summer Tour Partner. Thanks to @SavvyGamesGroup for supporting us out in Japan’ alongside a graphic of Fabian ScharJoelinton and Joe Willock in the newly-released Adidas third kit.

How much Savvy has paid to sponsor the Magpies is unclear, however it is set to provide a small financial boost. And as Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) prove, every penny counts.

Commercially driven trips have been frequent over the last 12 months with Howe’s men required to travel to the United States, Australia and Japan.
