Newcastle United transfer news and rumours during the January window. Here are some of the latest rumours doing the rounds regarding the Magpies.

'Talks' take place

Forgotten Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is currently 'in negotiations' to join Championship outfit Preston North End in the January transfer window, as his time at St. James' Park draws closer to an end.

This is according to a report from The Daily Telegraph. As things stand, the nature of Hayden's potential transfer to PNE is unclear - it remains to be seen whether they will take him on a permanent basis or in the form of a loan deal.

While Hayden is a fine player and has put forth some admirable shifts in a black and white shirt, the Toon have largely moved beyond him now - even with their ongoing injury crisis. He has not made any appearances for Newcastle this season in all competitions - instead, he endured a woeful loan spell at Standard Liege, where he failed to score any goals and did not register any assists.

With stars such as Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Joe Willock in the Magpies' squad (not to mention Sandro Tonali, who is currently serving a lengthy footballing ban), it is difficult to argue Hayden's case. Additionally, Newcastle are currently being throttled by Financial Fair Play restrictions and could sell players to offset this - in this scenario, it makes plenty of sense to let Hayden go.

He is under contract at Newcastle until the summer of 2026. As such, there is no rush to sell him, but it may be the best thing to move him on as soon as possible for the good of Hayden's career. He would be able to link up with talented midfielders at Preston such as Ali McCann and Ben Whiteman - it could be the shot in the arm that he needs.

Newcastle and Bayern Munich have reportedly reached an 'agreement' for Kieran Trippier to make the jump to FC Hollywood in January. According to Sky Germany, while an 'agreement' is in place, the Toon nevertheless rejected Bayern's initial offer.

While Trippier is experiencing a rough patch of form at the moment, fans should not forget how important he has been to the team in recent years - both from a defensive standpoint and going forwards. If he is sold, he will need replacing.
