Goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson ensured Newcastle United secured a Premier League win over Manchester United.

Newcastle United aimed a cheeky dig at Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag in the aftermath of their emphatic win at St James’ Park.

While goals from Joe Willock and Callum Wilson won the day for the Magpies on the park, the club’s social media team fired into action off it.

And just as the dust settled and the points were claimed, NUFC took to Twitter to aim a jibe at the complaining Dutchman, who in recent weeks has not been able to keep Eddie Howe’s team out of his mouth.

Prior to the Carabao Cup final win, Ten Hag claimed Newcastle used time-wasting tactics, and he again underlined that in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Newcastle wasted no time in reminding him of that. They tweeted: “No time-wasting required...”

Post-match Ten Hag played down any talk of time-wasting, however, Howe was in no mood to let the comments slide.

He said: “I’m pleased you brought that up actually because I want to make one thing very clear, we want the ball in play. We want a quick game.

“I don’t get where this time-wasting nonsense has come from because it’s not us and you saw today, we wanted the ball back in play as quickly as possible. High energy, high tempo.

“I’ll always stand up for my team. I’ll always stand up for what I believe is right, and that’s what I’ll always do.

“I think if something’s not accurate then naturally you want to put the right point across. As I said, we want the ball in play, that’s the type of team we are.”
