The January transfer window is fast approaching and it could be a busy one for Eddie Howe and the North East club.

Newcastle United will return to competitive action in five days time when they welcome Bournemouth to St James’ Park in the Last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

It will be the first of three matches, followed by Leicester City away on Boxing Day and Leeds United at home on New Year’s Eve in the Premier League, to end 2022. After that the January transfer window will be open and clubs across the country will be able to buy and sell players once again.

The Magpies could be in for a busy month as Eddie Howe and the recruitment team look to strengthen their ranks. However, it’s not just players to immediately add to the first team’s starting XI that are reportedly on the club’s radar with one bright young EFL prospect now being linked with a move to the North East.

Per a report from TeamTalk, Newcastle are amongst a number of clubs keen on signing Birmingham City midfielder Jobe Bellingham. The 17-year old, like his brother and current England star Jude, is a product of the St Andrews club’s academy and has featured regularly in the Championship this season.

Bellingham has made 11 league appearances and one in the cup during this campaign and is beginning to catch the eye of potential suitors. United aren’t the only side said to be interested and the clubs chasing the midfielder all seem to be located in the same area with Middlesbrough and Sunderland also being linked.

The report states that City’s current ownership uncertainty could leave them ‘vulnreable’ to losing the starlet but that boss John Eustace will be determined to keep a hold of the promising starlet. No fee has been mentioned that would be required to take the player away from the Midlands side in January but other clubs from outside of England who are understood to be keen include Rangers, Nice and Bayern Leverkusen.

Jobe’s brother Jude was the stand out star for England at the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar and has also previously been linked with a move to Newcastle United but seems far more likely to join one of Liverpool, Manchester City or Real Madrid if and when he leaves Borussia Dortmund.
