Former Nottingham Forest loanee Renan Lodi is set to complete a summer move to French club Marseille.

Lodi is no stranger to Newcastle United, who enquired about signing the Atletico Madrid left-back last summer before opting to bring Matt Targett back permanently.

The Brazilian joined Forest on loan for the 2022-23 Premier League season a few weeks later and he featured in the Reds’ late 2-1 defeat to the Magpies in March.

The 25-year-old made 32 appearances for Steve Cooper’s side. Many expected him to sign permanently, however he is set to join Marseille for around £11million.

As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Lodi is due in Marseille today (Friday) to undergo his medical and put pen to paper on a five-year deal. Madrid have inserted a sizeable 20 per-cent in the player’s contract.

Magpies head coach Eddie Howe is keen to sign a left-back this summer after Dan Burn, a recognised central defender, was forced to play the majority of last season there.

Targett was limited to just six Premier League starts after a disrupted start to the season with illness and injuries.
