Woodman, who joined the Magpies’ academy in 2013, moves to the Championship club having spent the second half of last season on loan at Bournemouth.

The 24-year-old, after returning from a successful two-year loan spell at Swansea City, started the 2021/22 Premier League season as the club’s No.1 with both Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow unavailable.

He started the opening five games before Darlow return. Woodman’s last appearance for Newcastle was a 4-1 defeat at Manchester United in September.

As one door closes, another one opens, with England goalkeeper Nick Pope set to become Newcastle’s second summer signing following Matt Targett’s arrival from Aston Villa.

Eddie Howe’s side are in advanced talks to sign the 30-year-old, who has made over 150 appearances for the Turf Moor club.

Pope will compete with Martin Dubravka for the No.1 spot, while Karl Darlow, under contract at St James’ Park until 2025, is linked with a move to Middlesbrough.
