Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven arrived at St James’ Park on Saturday talked about as one of the Premier League’s best defenders but that argument, quite literally, fell flat on its face.

The Netherlands international has earned rave reviews from pundits and others alike but had an afternoon to forget as Newcastle United hit Spurs for four.

Van de Ven crashed to the floor not once, but twice, as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon scored two quick-fire goals. Three days on, and the 22-year-old isn’t being allowed to forget it.

Although fooled by Gordon’s trickery to make it 2-0, it is Isak’s opener 90 seconds earlier that van de Ven will have scrolled past a number of times when looking at social media.

The Dutchman was turned inside and out by Isak before his head hit the floor just as the Newcastle striker directed the ball past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

It didn’t go unnoticed, not least with the United bench. Tino Livramento was spotted by the TV cameras at full-time informing Isak of exactly what happened, to which Newcastle’s social media admin has turned into a TikTok meme!

With a laughter sound playing over the top, the clip quotes Livramento as saying “for your goal, did you see what happened to their centre-back?” before showing a photo of van de Van on the floor with his mouth wide open in anguish.

It has sparked a hilarious reaction among Newcastle fans and the wider community, although, going off the comments, Spurs supporters haven’t taken too kindly to the upload.
