Newcastle United co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi hailed the club's fans for their support against Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

Eddie Howe's men were backed by a sold out away end at Villa Park as a first-half brace from Fabian Schar and a Alex Moreno own goal saw the Magpies record only their second Premier League away win of the season.

They also inflicted a home defeat on Villa for the first time in almost 12 months. Prior to kick-off, Unai Emery's side had collected 28 points from a possible 30 on home turf this term.

"That was one hell of a game," Ghodoussi posted on X. "The lads worked their socks off I think that’s our first win at Villa Park since 2013 and the first time Villa has lost at home since Feb 23. And let’s not forget the incredible support tonight."

Staveley too echoed her husband's comments on the travelling fans. She said on Instagram: "Outstanding performance tonight! I could not be prouder of our team.

"Thank you to all of our amazing fans to continue to travel regardless of distance. What an amazing night 🖤🤍"
