Newcastle United have announced the permanent exits of under-21s duo Remi Savage and Cameron Ferguson.

Savage joined the Magpies from Liverpool in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 38 appearances for the under-21s. The 22-year-old featured twice for Eddie Howe's first-team in pre-season, starting the 3-2 win over Gateshead before coming on as a substitute against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.

Duncan's son, Cameron Ferguson, joined the Magpies' academy from Tranmere Rovers two-and-a-half-years ago. He too has left the club "following a mutual agreement regarding his contract."

Ferguson, 20, spent the first-half of the season on loan at Scottish League Two side Forfar Athletic, where he scored once in 13 appearances. He leaves having not made a senior appearance for Newcastle.

Meanwhile, young striker Dylan Stephenson has joined National League North side South Shields on loan until the end of the season - which is set to bring an end to his seven-year spell at the club.

The 21-year-old has progressed through the United academy ranks and earned an opportunity to train with Eddie Howe’s first-team squad over the last 18 months.

Stephenson’s progression was also rewarded with a senior debut as a late substitute in a pre-season friendly win over Serie A club Atalanta in August 2022 and he bagged a first goal in a mid-season friendly hammering of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

The former Hamilton Academical loanee is out-of-contract at the end of the campaign and no talks have taken place over a new contract.
