Newcastle United have confirmed young goalkeeper Dan Langley has joined National League North club Spennymoor Town after cutting short a similar spell at Gateshead.
The academy stopper made his senior bow in a pre-season friendly at York City in July 2021 but was handed the first loan move of his career when he joined the Magpies’ National League neighbours Gateshead during the summer. Langley made 12 appearances for the Tynesiders but the form of experienced keeper James Montgomery has meant his chances to impress with Mike Williamson’s side have been limited in recent weeks.

That led to Langley’s temporary spell at the International Stadium being cut short and he will now spend the remainder of the season at Spennymoor. After the deal was confirmed, Moors manager Jason Ainsley admitted the Magpies youngster had already made an impression on him during Gateshead’s pre-season win over the Moors.
He told the club website: “Dan has a real physical presence about him and, from speaking to him, I can tell that he is a very determined young lad. He played for Gateshead against us in pre-season and was excellent, so we got to see him first hand and we know what he’s all about. He has already been out on loan in the National League so has experience of this level which was important for us when we knew that Gio (Bellagambi) wasn’t staying. We wish him well during his time with us and look forward to working with him in the coming months.”

Langley has been handed the number one shirt at Brewery Field and could make his debut in Saturday’s National League North game at AFC Telford United.
The young goalkeeper is unlikely to be the last loan departure of the month with Joe White reportedly set to join Exeter City and recent signing Garang Kuol currently in Edinburgh holding face-to-face talks with Hearts.
