Newcastle United confirm major Joelinton news as six players set to leave in 2024 - as it stands

Newcastle United have announced a new long-term contract for Joelinton.

Joelinton has signed a new long-term contract at Newcastle United.

The Brazilian joined the Magpies from Hoffenheim in 2019 for a then club-record £40million transfer and has gone to make 179 appearances, scoring 25 times.

He initially struggled to make an impact on Tyneside as a centre forward but a switch to midfield under Eddie Howe in November 2021 has proven to be transformative.

The 27-year-old was out-of-contract in 2025 with Howe admitting earlier this year he could have been sold this summer had a new deal not been agreed.

However, talk surrounding Joelinton’s future has been put to bed after the club announced his new long-term contract on Thursday afternoon.

Howe said: "This has been a big priority for us off the pitch and I'm absolutely delighted Joelinton has committed his future to the club.

"Joey is an exceptional player and person, and the love he has for the club is reciprocated by all of us here. He brings unique qualities to the group and undoubtedly makes us stronger.

"I'd like to thank everyone involved behind the scenes for bringing this to a swift and positive conclusion. We are all excited to see Joelinton in a Newcastle shirt for many years to come."

Meanwhile, Joelinton - who currently sidelined with a groin injury - added: "I feel great. I feel very happy and my family is happy. A lot of things have happened in my years here. I've learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.

"I love playing for the club. I love the club, I love the fans. We had a lot of discussions and I always wanted to be here. I'm glad to continue and I hope to have success in the years to come."

Although Joelinton has committed his future to United, a number of players, either this summer or next, are out-of-contract. Here’s when every player’s contract expires, with six (as it stands) set to leave at the end of the campaign:
