Newcastle United have likely concluded their transfer business for the summer, with less than a week remaining before the window shuts.

Premier League and EFL clubs have until 11pm on Friday to complete their business with the Magpies already enjoying an impressive window - one which Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hailed as 'smart business'.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe says more incomings are only likely if an injury crisis develops in one position. He said on Friday: “It’s still the case at the moment. I think unless something happens to a couple of players in one position before the window shutting, we won’t be adding to the squad.”

And with Newcastle unlikely to re-enter the market before the window closes on Friday, attention now turns to future transfer windows.

iNews reports a new centre-back and winger are a priority for the club in the coming windows with Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams one of the names ‘under consideration’.

Reports in Spain claim the player has a release clause of £42m with his current deal set to expire next summer. However, the winger is reportedly close to signing a new contract but the release clause is set to remain in any new deal. The Bilbao star had been linked with Aston Villa earlier this summer but interest appears to have cooled.

In other news, Newcastle striker Cameron Ferguson has joined Scottish League Two side Forfar Athletic on a six-month loan deal.

A club statement confirmed: "The 20-year-old striker, son of former Magpies forward Duncan, will link up with the Loons until January 2024 and will be targeting his senior debut whilst at the Scottish fourth tier outfit, who finished fifth last term.

"Joining the Magpies' Academy from Tranmere Rovers in the summer of 2021, the Liverpool-born forward has featured for United's Under-21 side on a number of occasions appearing in the young Magpies' 2022/23 Papa John's Trophy campaign."
