Newcastle United confirmed starting XI v Crystal Palace as Eddie Howe makes double £68m change

Eddie Howe has named two changes to his Newcastle United starting XI for this afternoon’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace (kick-off 3pm).

The Magpies are looking to bounce back from Monday’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, and Howe has brought in Dan Burn and Sandro Tonali for Lloyd Kelly and Sean Longstaff.

Burn is immediately restored to the line-up after serving a one-match ban. Tonali, meanwhile, starts for the first time since the 2-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup last month.

The Italian joins Bruno Guimaraes in midfield. Howe faced questions on whether the pair could play together in Friday’s press conference.

“Anything is possible,” Howe said. ”Of course they can. They are two outstanding players. It’s up to me to try and find a solution that works for both players and sees their qualities within the team.

“You can put any player into the team and any combination of players into the team, but it’s got to be to the team’s benefit. It has to be right for both players to showcase their attributes. So, hopefully we can do that.”
