Newcastle United confirmed starting XI v Luton Town: £60m injury blow as Harvey Barnes call made

Newcastle United confirmed starting XI: Decisions made on Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes.

Newcastle United are without Alexander Isak for this afternoon's Premier League against Luton Town at St James' Park (kick-off 3pm).

The Swede withdrew during the first-half of the Magpies' 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Tuesday night with a groin complaint. United assistant coach Jason Tindall said Isak had "a chance" of being involved versus Luton but isn't named in the matchday squad.

“He’s a lot better," said Tindall. "He’s improved through Wednesday and Thursday. There’s an improvement there, but he’s one we’ll have to assess after training to see how he is ahead of the game. He’s got a chance to be involved tomorrow, but we’ll have to assess it and take advice from the medical team. Miguel Almiron, who replaced Isak in the 43rd minute at Villa Park, comes back into the starting XI and is over his illness. Anthony Gordon is set to lead the line with Jacob Murphy on the right and Almiron on the left of a three-man attack.

Meanwhile, Newcastle welcome back both Harvey Barnes and Callum Wilson on the bench.

The Magpies have been without Barnes since he suffered a toe injury in the early stages of the 8-0 win at Sheffield United in September The 26-year-old was initially expected to return around the festive period but a slight setback delayed his comeback.

Meanwhile, Wilson is back in the squad for the first time in 2024. The England international has missed the last five matches with a calf issue.
