Newcastle United confirmed starting XI vs Crystal Palace as £20m star returns to squad

Eddie Howe has named his Newcastle United starting XI against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle United welcome back Callum Wilson for tonight’s Premier League clash away to Crystal Palace (kick-off 8pm).

As hinted by Eddie Howe during his pre-match press conference, Wilson returns to the matchday squad in time for the final six matches of the campaign.

The England striker hasn’t featured for United in over two months after suffering a pectoral injury in the closing stages of the 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest in February.

Ahead of the match, Howe said involvement: “He's trained very well this week. It's been very good to have him back with the energy he brings and the quality he brings.

“He's been able to focus on his legs and his running during the period he's been out so he's come back looking really good. Hopefully, he'll be able to hit the ground running and make an impact for us.”

Wilson is among the substitute as Howe names an unchanged starting XI from the 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle head into the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park unbeaten in four matches. Since the March international, Howe’s men have beaten West Ham United, Fulham and Spurs, and drew with Everton.

The change of form has seen the Magpies move up to sixth in the table and a win in South London would guarantee they stay there ahead of Saturday’s visit of relegation threatened Sheffield United to St James’ Park.

Palace have also had a recent upturn in form under new boss Oliver Glasner, winning back-to-back league games against Liverpool and West Ham.
