Newcastle United ‘consider’ hijacking Aston Villa transfer as midfielder links resurface

Newcastle United are preparing to return to action with a difficult clash with Tottenham Hotspur on the agenda.

The Magpies went into the international break on the back of a defeat, but heading into the business end of the season, safety is still within touching distance.

Newcastle look to be more-or-less safe at this point, though two wins would likely offer that much-treasured guarantee.

Philippe Coutinho links

Newcastle are said to have joined the race to sign Barcelona misfit Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho has impressed in the second half of this season during a loan spell with Aston Villa, who do have an option to buy worth around £34million.

But the midfielder’s wage could be a problem for the Midlands side, and according to Sport, Newcastle have now enquired about a possible transfer.

Boubacar Kamara links

The Magpies are also being linked with a move for Marseille star Boubacar Kamara.

Kamara is a 22-year-old defensive midfielder who has been linked with a number of big moves ahead of this summer, when he will become a free agent.

According to Sky Sports via Football Transfer Tavern, Newcastle are now expressing an interest, and there is no sign of Kamara penning new terms with Marseille ahead of becoming available this summer.
