The Magpies have been desperate to bolster their defence during the January transfer window and have so far added Kieran Trippier to their ranks.

While it has been reported today that they have had a bid accepted for Brighton’s Dan Burn, they still remain in the market for other targets.

Eddie Howe’s side are now considering a late attempt to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Conor Coady, according to Rudy Galetti.

Newcastle had been rumoured to be interested in the England international back in October and they are now looking to revive their interest following their failed move for Sevilla’s Carlos.

With the transfer window closing tomorrow night, the Daily Star have claimed that the Tyneside club could offer over £25 million to secure his services.

Coady has spent almost seven years at Molineux Stadium but has particularly impressed this season, claiming ten clean sheets in all competitions.

The Wolves captain has led his side to eighth place in the Premier League and will be hoping they can return to European football next season.

Newcastle are currently relying on Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar and Ciaran Clark in the centre of defence - with the latter most recently seeing red for punching an opponent in a friendly match during their mid-season trip to Saudi Arabia.

The Magpies have conceded the second-most goals in the league so far this season and Coady would certainly play a vital role in stabilising their struggling backline.

The 28-year-old is currently under contract with Wolves until 2025 and so the club are under no pressure to sell.

However, the Star claim the West Midlands club may have to accept an offer that is ‘too good to turn down’.
