Newcastle United consider shock move for ex-Man United star after major development

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is being considered by Newcastle United.

Newcastle United are reportedly considering a shock move for former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

The Magpies beat the Red Devils 1-0 on Saturday evening courtesy of Anthony Gordon's second-half goal but lost No.1 Nick Pope to a dislocated shoulder in the 86th minute.

Eddie Howe admitted after the game "it didn't look good" and it's widely reported that Pope is facing four to five months out.

"It looks like he’s dislocated his shoulder," Howe said on Saturday. "Such a strange thing really because he’d have made that dive thousands of times. It just looks like the arm’s kept going on the moist floor and his shoulder has come out of joint.

"We’re going to have to seek a specialist opinion and see what happens but it doesn't look good for him.”

And according to the Daily Mail, free agent De Gea is one potential option Newcastle have looked at. The Spaniard exited Man United after 12 years in the summer and is yet to join a new club.

In the meantime, Martin Dubravka is set to deputise in Pope's place.

Newcastle also have Loris Karius, who faced Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final last season, and Mark Gillespie, although he hasn't played a competitive game for three years.
