Newcastle United could replicate Miguel Almiron move with deal for AC Milan and Bayern Munich target

Newcastle United are one of a number of European clubs said to have an interest in 19-year-old Major League Soccer star Cade Cowell.

After joining the San Jose Earthquakes as a homegrown player in January 2019, Cowell made his senior debut eight months later as a second-half substitute in a 4-3 win over Sacramento Republic in a US Open tie. A league debut followed in March 2020 in a 5-2 defeat against Minnesota United and he then notched his first goal for his side in a 3-2 loss against LA Galaxy during the following season.

Still only 19-year-old, Cowell has gone on to score 11 goals and provide nine assists in 87 appearances in all competitions and earned his first United States senior cap when he appeared as a substitute in a friendly against Bosnia in December 2021. That total was doubled earlier this year when he started in a 2-1 defeat against Serbia.

The youngster continues to show signs of delivering on the promise he showed during his early appearances in the MLS that led then-Earthquakes manager Mathias Almeyda to tip him to have ‘a bright future’ in the game.

Speaking after the youngster officially joined the Earthquakes, former Argentina international Almeyda - who once scored for Inter Milan in a 4-1 Champions League win at Newcastle - said: “Cade has a bright future ahead of him and it is up to him how far he will go. He adds to what I believe is a very talented group of young players here in San Jose and we’re anxious to see him develop with us.”

Cowell is believed to have a whole host of admirers in Europe with 90Min revealing the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and AC Milan all retain an interest in a player regarding to be one of the brightest talents in the MLS. The report also states Newcastle have ‘expressed an interest’ in a move for the youngster, who remains under contract with the Earthquakes until June 2026.
