Newcastle United deadline day transfer imminent as Matias Fernandez-Pardo passes medical

Matias Fernandez-Pardo has completed his Newcastle United medical ahead of joining from Lille for £51million.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo has moved a step closer to rubber-stamping his £51million move to Newcastle United.

The 21-year-old flew to Tyneside on Monday evening and immediately started undergoing his medical after an agreement was struck with Lille just over 24 hours before the transfer deadline.

Newcastle identified Fernandez-Pardo as a top target at the beginning of the summer but were told he wanted Champions League football. But last week that stance changed, and the Magpies have worked around the clock to secure a deal.

The club’s medical team worked late on Monday night to carry out the player’s medical, which he has now completed. As per Sky Sports News reporter Keith Downie, Fernandez-Pardo will wear the number 20 shirt.

Fernandez-Pardo will become the Magpies’ eighth signing of the summer after Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek, Amar Dedic and Nico Gonzalez, taking the total summer spend to around £270million.

United have also raised £244million in player sales in a transitional summer that has saw Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes leave.

Nick Woltemade is also set to join that list, though only on loan, after Fernandez-Pardo’s arrival paved the way for him to move to Juventus. The agreement is a straight loan, with no obligation or option to buy.

The 24-year-old’s departures comes just a year after he joined Newcastle for a club-record £69million from Stuttgart.
