Newcastle United linked with bargain Serie A superstar amid striker transfer battle

Newcastle United fans will be counting down the days until the Premier League returns, and indeed until their side secures top-flight safety.

It has been a drama-filled campaign for the Magpies, who have turned things around following the arrival of Eddie Howe and their new owners.

And the securing of guaranteed safety, which should only be a couple of wins away, will put the cherry on the top of that turnaround.

But those potential wins will have to wait for now, as the international break rumbles on, and in the meantime, we run you through all the latest transfer rumours:

Osimhen blow

Newcastle are said to have received a setback in their bid to land Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen.

The Magpies were believed to have expressed an interest in Osimhen in the summer, and reports claim they remain interested.

But the latest Tuttosport report, via TeamTalk, claims Manchester United are now at the front of the queue as they chase an Edinson Cavani replacement.

Newcastle could be in for Dybala

An Italian agent has included Newcastle in the list of teams who could land Juventus star Paulo Dybala this summer.

Dybala is now expected to leave Juventus at the end of his contract, ahead of next season, but his wages could cause problems for many teams.

Newcastle may not have that problem, and Italian football agent Andrea D’Amico has told Area Napoli: “In addition to Inter, there are few in Italy who can spend so much.

“Whoever takes him now, in fact, keeps him until the end: you have to want him on a technical and budgetary level because he has to have a long and important contract.

“A couple of foreign tracks are worth keeping an eye on: I am thinking of a big-league team and the Premier League. Newcastle have a Saudi fund that aims high.”

Dybala is already able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with any non-Italian club.
