Hide AdWood felt “something pop” in his rib early on and despite heavy strapping by the on-field medics was unable to continue.
“I went in for a challenge and something popped in my rib,” the £25million January recruit said. “It hurt to run and breathe, so I had to come off.”
The former Burnley striker has started just once for Newcastle in the Premier League this season with his other six appearances coming as a substitute.
However, if his injury is to keep him out a period of time, the Magpies could go into Saturday’s meeting at Fulham with just one recognised striker.
