Newcastle United will be without Nick Pope for next weekend’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester United. The Magpies goalkeeper was shown a straight red card in the 22nd minute after racing off his line and handling the ball.

It capped off a nightmare start at St James’ Park against Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side raced into a 2-0 lead after goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo before Pope was sent off.

The 30-year-old came sprinting out of his penalty area to clear Alisson’s long ball over the top, however, misjudged it and handled it after failing to head it away.

As a result, the £12million summer signing will sit out of next Sunday’s trip to Wembley - the Magpies’ first cup final in 24 years.

Loris Karius, or fourth choice Mark Gillespie, are in line to start versus Man United.
