The January transfer window has been open for almost two weeks now and the number of big deals being dones across English football is starting to pick up.

Newcastle United have yet to complete any deals but supporters are celebrating their 2-0 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup last night which has secured their place in the semi-finals. It’s unclear just how active the North East side plan to be in the current window but there has certainly been lots of speculation about deals they could look to do in the summer.

One such move could be to bring in Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko, the 18-year old German international who has also reportedly been on the radar of Chelsea. According to a report from the Evening Standard, Newcastle are ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign the forward and have already ‘made a substantial verbal approach’ to him.

It’s claimed that United are prepared to offer the player a £150,000 per week deal which could see Chelsea ‘miss out’ if the player does accept the terms. No transfer fee would be involved as Moukoko’s contract is due to expire in the summer and he will become a free agent if he does not agree fresh terms with the Bundesliga club.

The Cameroon born forward is one of the rising stars in European football, having come through the youth system at Dortmund he has gone on to make 59 first team appearances already and score 11 goals in all competitions. This season he has made 22 appearances for the club and scored six goals, he also featured for Germany at the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar as a late substitute in the 2-1 group stage defeat to Japan.

That World Cup appearance was only his second for the German men’s national team, having represented the country previously at Under 20 and Under 21 level. Moukoko was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon but moved to Germany at a young age to live with his father where he would begin his footballing career with FC St Pauli before transferring to Dortmund.
