Newcastle United will make late checks on Callum Wilson and Joelinton ahead of tomorrow night’s Champions League clash at home to Paris Saint-Germain.

Wilson has missed back-to-back matches against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup and Burnley in the Premier League because of hamstring tightness.

Joelinton, meanwhile, limped off with a hamstring injury against the Clarets, just four minutes after coming on as a substitute.

Providing an update at his pre-match press conference at St James’ Park, Howe said: “Callum, we think, won’t make tomorrow but he’s going to be close. As it stands now, he probably won’t make the game.

“Joey is in a similar position where he’s close and we’ll make a late check on him.”

Meanwhile, Howe confirmed £52 summer signing Sandro Tonali is “fine” after the Italian missed the first part of training this morning but joined in later on.

Sven Botman (knee) is ruled out alongside Harvey Barnes (toe) and Joe Willock (Achilles).

The visit of PSG is the Magpies’ first Champions League fixture at St James’ Park for 20 years.

Howe said: “It’s been a good few days for us. We’re really looking forward to the game. I can’t wait to experience the home atmosphere and what our fans create. It’s going to be a memorable night, hopefully our performance will make that way too.”
