Two Alan Shearer goal records in danger as Newcastle United duo strike ruthless Premier League partnership

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson were named as strike partners for the first time - and etched their names in Newcastle United history.

A rampant Toon side ripped Burnley apart to leapfrog Manchester United in the Europa League race. Goals from Wilson, Sean Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes and Isak sealed the Clarets’ fate before Dara O’Shea bagged a late consolation.

Newcastle are now two points above the Red Devils in sixth spot, although they travel to Crystal Palace on Monday. Momentum is firmly in the Magpies’ favour, with a winner-takes-all showdown at Old Trafford sandwiched between games against Brighton and Brentford.

Wilson became Newcastle’s second-highest scorer in Premier League history, moving up to 47 strikes with his instinctive first-half finish. He moved in front of Peter Beardsley, with only club legend Alan Shearer (148) ahead of him on the list.

Isak also equalled a Shearer record - becoming the first Newcastle player to score 20 league goals in a top-flight season since 2003-04. The Swede - who should have bagged from the spot minutes earlier - is five away from equalling Shearer’s best Premier League figures as a United player.
