Newcastle United duo Sean Longstaff and Jacob Murphy linked up with a local non-league club earlier this week as part of their preparations for the 2023-24 season.

On Tuesday evening, the duo paid a visit to Northern League Division Two side Newcastle Blue Star and were videoed getting involved in some parts of training.

While running drills were permitted, both players sat out of any contact sessions just to avoid any potential injuries before returning to pre-season with the Magpies on July 7.

Longstaff and Murphy’s visit to Blue Star was publicised by the Scotswood-based club on Twitter, where they joked the pair had become their latest signings.

The tweet read: “The gaffer said last night he wanted a couple more additions?”

“A huge thanks to @seanlongstaff97 & @JacobMurphy95 for dropping by training last night, and taking the time to speak to the lads ahead of the new campaign. An exciting time for football on Tyneside.....

“Some more signing news coming later this week...”

Longstaff and Murphy are likely to be involved in Newcastle’s opening pre-season friendly away to Gateshead on Saturday, July 15.

Eddie Howe’s side then take on Rangers in Allan McGregor’s testimonial before flying to the USA for the Premier League Summer Series. They face Aston Villa, Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Villa are the visitors to St James’ Park on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
