“Newcastle are preparing a proposal for Gonçalo Ramos as new top target,” Romano tweeted. “Discussions ongoing on player side and talks will continue with Benfica.”
Ramos has scored 11 goals in 35 league appearances for Benfica, while he has netted a hugely impressive 14 goals in 18 appearances for Portugal under-18s.
Carragher verdict
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has issued his verdict on Newcastle’s transfer business so far this season.

“They got the centre-back, Botman and Nick Pope. They made sensible signings but they’ll want one or two more in before the window closes.”
Newcastle fans will feel that’s a pretty fair assessment of the business so far, and Howe will indeed feel as though he wants to add another player to two to the mix over the coming weeks.
