Newcastle United expected starting XI at Everton - with TWO changes plus Joelinton & Jonjo Shelvey prediction
Newcastle United can go 12 points above the Premier League relegation zone with three points at struggling Everton.
The Magpies’ nine-game unbeaten run came to a controversial end at Chelsea on Sunday afternoon following Kai Havertz’s late winner.
United had a strong appeal for a penalty earlier in the game turned down, a decision Eddie Howe admits he is still “still burning” from.
However, the focus now turns to Everton and Newcastle know a win will see them take a giant step towards top-flight safety.
Frank Lampard’s Toffees sit outside the drop zone only on goal difference having won just one of their previous 11 games.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has labelled this Everton’s biggest game in 20 years ahead of a tough run-in.
It’s all to play for in what is likely to be a nervy Goodison Park crowd.
Speaking ahead of the game, Howe said: “I’m sure it’ll be a very big occasion and we have to be fully prepared for what will be a really good atmosphere.
“I think there will be a lot of emotion in the game that we’ll need to handle ourselves and control our start to the game and try to impose ourselves as we have in this spell of away games. I’ve been really impressed with how we’ve conducted ourselves.
“It’s going to be a severe test because Everton have a really good squad of players and I really admire Frank (Lampard) and the work he’s doing so we’re going to have to be at our best.”
A late call will be made over the fitness of midfield pair Joelinton (groin) and Jonjo Shelvey (illness) after missing the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Howe named four changes to his starting XI on Sunday - but how many will he make for Everton? And will the United head coach revert back to the 4-3-3 formation, or stick with 5-4-1?
Here’s our predicted Newcastle United starting XI to face Everton.

1. GK: Martin Dubravka
Dubravka was just minutes away from keeping a deserved fifth clean sheet of the season at Chelsea last time out having made just one save prior to Kai Havertz’s winner.

2. RB: Javier Manquillo
Manquillo was selected ahead of Emil Krafth at Chelsea. Following Kieran Trippier’s injury, the Spaniard was tipped as the man to deputise. Photo: Laurence Griffiths

3. CB: Fabian Schar
Has been nursing a groin issue of late but that isn’t expected to rule Schar out. He’s shown in previous games he’s more than willing to battle on.

4. CB: Dan Burn
Burn was outstanding at Chelsea on Sunday, regardless of his mistake during Havertz’s winner. Still, there is an argument Havertz should not have been on the pitch for a first-half elbow on the Blyth-born defender.
