Newcastle United expected starting XI versus Brentford - with Allan Saint-Maximin decision made

Newcastle United are back in London for the second time in seven days with Brentford the hosts this afternoon.

Eddie Howe’s side picked up a 1-1 draw at West Ham United last time out courtesy of Joe Willock’s first goal of the campaign.

That equaliser stretched the Magpies’ unbeaten run to six matches, with three wins and three draws lifting them out of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, it’s still very tight at the bottom. Only two points is separating United from 18th placed Burnley.

But equally, if Newcastle leave the Brentford Community Stadium victorious, they’ll leapfrog Thomas Frank’s side in the league table.

The main talking point before the game has been Allan Saint-Maximin’s fitness. The Frenchman missed last weekend with a calf injury and Howe confirmed a “late call” will be made on winger.

Howe said on Friday: “He’s been away (in France) getting intensive treatment. We said when he suffered the injury it wouldn’t be long-term so we’re keeping our fingers crossed on him.

“He got a bang on the calf against Aston Villa.

“In terms of his rehab, he’s been away to get intensive, specialised treatment abroad. We felt that was the quickest way to get him fit.

“He’s in a very good place mentally and eager to return.:

Will he feature in West London? and what about January signing Bruno Guimaraes?

Here’s the starting XI we’re predicting United’s head coach to go with:
