Newcastle United expected starting XI versus Crystal Palace - with £20m star dropped

Newcastle United’s expected starting XI to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League at St James’ Park tonight.

A win for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace will see Eddie Howe’s side reach the so-called magic 40-point mark.

The Magpies are 12 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after back-to-back home wins against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City.

Should that become three-in-a-row tonight then United, if some aren’t already admitting it, will know another top-flight football is guaranteed, albeit not mathematically.

Defeating Crystal Palace would also see Howe become the first Newcastle boss since Sir Bobby Robson to record six straight St James’ Park victories.

"To do that would be an incredible thing for us, and to do anything related to the name Sir Bobby Robson and to try and achieve one of his milestones would be brilliant for us,” Howe responded.

"I think playing at home, as we’ve always said, is such a unique thing here. It’s such a privilege to play in the stadium, and the atmosphere the supporters have created has been fantastic.”

There is plenty at stake on Tyneside against a Palace side who are looking to bounce back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
