Further to that the Magpies are also reportedly keeping an eye of the situation regarding France youth international striker Arnaud Kalimuendo, who is on the books at PSG.
Areola spent last season on loan with the Hammers, but acted as understudy to Lukasz Fabianski in the Premier League for much of the campaign.
The former Real Madrid keeper was, however, used more frequently in David Moyes’ men’s run to the semi-final of the Europa Leauge, playing 11 games on the route to the last four.

Meanwhile, with a change at the top in Paris, with Newcastle-linked Luis Campos taking up the role of sporting director, the future for Kalimuendo remains unclear.
Kalimuendo spent last season on loan at RC Lens, scoring 12 goals in 32 Ligue 1 matches.
The 20-year-old is thought to be interesting both Newcastle and Leicester City, while he has rejected a move to newly-promoted Nottingham Forest.
