Realistically, Newcastle are well on their way to escaping relegation anyway, but crossing the finish line will be an important step to banish all fears of the drop.

We do still have a couple of days remaining in the international break, however, and in the meantime, we have rounded up the latest transfer rumours involving the Magpies:

De Vrij chase

Newcastle are regularly being linked with moves for defenders, with Eddie Howe said to be keen to improve his back-line over the summer.

And according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Newcastle are eyeing a move for Inter defender Stefan de Vrij, but they are not alone.

Tottenham are also being linked with a move for the 30-year-old, who is out of contract in 2023, as things stand.

Strashoka links

The Magpies have again been linked with a move for Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha.

The 27-year-old stopper is out of contract this summer, and according to Corriere della Sera via SportWitness, Newcastle are eyeing a potential free transfer.

The idea could be to add competition for Martin Dubravka, who is still tied down at St James’ Park on a long term deal.
