Newcastle United reportedly have strong competition in their pursuit of Borussia Mönchengladbach winger Marcus Thuram. The player is apparently a man in-demand ahead of the January transfer window.

According to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi via Sport Witness, the Toon Army along with fellow Premier League side Aston Villa ‘could make a bid as early as the winter’ for the attacker. However, they aren’t the only two clubs in the frame to land him though with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan all also credited with an interest.

Thuram, 25, is out of contract at the end of this season and is due to become a free agent next June as things stand. Gladbach risk losing him for nothing next summer if they can’t agree terms of a new deal. Therefore, a sale in the upcoming window is a distinct possibility to ensure they obtain a fee.

He is currently away with the France squad at the World Cup and made their 26-man roster for Qatar after his impressive start to the current campaign. The former Sochaux and Guingamp man has scored 13 goals in 18 games so far this term.

Since making the switch to the Borussia-Park back in 2019, he has made a total of 119 appearances for Gladbach in all competitions and has chipped in with 41 goals and 26 assists. Thuram would be a useful addition for Newcastle based on these statistics and would offer them another option going forward. However, they will have to see off other sides to get him.
