Newcastle United fans are all saying the same thing after their side’s heavy defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Magpies lost 3-0 at Villa Park and put on a sorry performance to suffer a significant setback in their bid to land Champions League football. The defeat hands Tottenham a huge opportunity to close the gap ahead of the two sides facing each other next time out.

But it was the nature of the defeat that will have concerned Eddie Howe, and indeed some fans, with Newcastle looking a shadow of their usual, hard-working selves. Villa dominated from early on and were allowed to run away with the game, with Ollie Watkins netting twice and Jacob Ramsey netting the other.

Though, it seems Newcastle fans are now overly concerned, and largely because of the body of work their side has already put together this season, making this result look very much like an off day.

Here is what some Magpies fans have had to say on Twitter.

@JackWilliamGurr - “Weren’t at the races. Can happen, move on next week.”

@NUFCTalkPod - “Bad day at the office, they are allowed.”

@Inzakanami - “Day off, it happens. Crucial game next week against Spurs, you got this!”

@bagehot99 - “ Never in it. No biggie. Villa played well. “

@yarnesy - “Shocking today, but we can’t win every game. This is without doubt a work in progress. I’m sure Eddie and the lads will put the hard work in this week, to put this awful result and performance behind us, and focus on another MASSIVE game against Spuds next week. #hwtl”

@Dhogg96 - “Not going to win them all, Villa are a really good team with a top class manager, they should be fighting for european spots, hopefully this makes the lads more determined to beat Spurs, i fancy our chances at home.”

@BenNUFC_18 - “Worst performance all season put it right against Tottenham.”

@GThirlaway - “An off day, it happens. Show me 1 side who hasn’t had one this season. Sometimes smaller clubs beat their bigger opponent, never back the early kick off for that reason. We go again against spurs. Beat them and we’re still in the running for CL, lose and it’ll look like Europa.”

@BettyBlack74 - “Reality check. We are not a champions league team. But let’s not forget where we were this time last year. So a tip 6 finish is still a huge achievement in my eyes.”
