Newcastle United fans point to transfer ‘genius’ after striker’s major injury blow confirmed

Newcastle United fans have been reacting to news of a crushing injury blow for one of their out-on-loan strikers.

The Magpies are currently fully concentrated on the task at hand, hoping to qualify for the Champions League this season, but they will not be oblivious to the news coming out of the East Midlands this Thursday. Striker Chris Wood has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury, and he will miss out on Nottingham Forest’s battle for safety.

Wood was loaned out to Forest by Newcastle in January with an obligatory option to buy clause included if certain performance add-ons were met, with competition increasing at St James’ Park following the signing of Alexander Isak, in particular. The New Zealander has since netted once for Forest, but he picked up the thigh injury just before the international break. Despite that, the forward travelled to New Zealand for to link up with his national team, but he did not play following assessment from his nation’s medical team.

Speaking about the blow, Forest boss said: “It’s just something we have to deal with, we’ll put our focus into the players who are available and who are training ready to play the next game and commit to them.”

Newcastle fans have also had their say on their striker’s blow, and much of the comments surround the deal that will see Wood join Forest permanently this summer.
