Newcastle United are set to be without Joelinton for Saturday evening's Premier League clash at home to Manchester City (kick-off 5:30pm).
The Brazilian was a standout performer in the 3-0 Tyne-Wear derby victory over Sunderland. He set up the opener after his cross was turned into his own net by Dan Ballard before Alexander Isak scored a second-half brace.
But shortly after United's second goal, Joelinton was brought off after picking up a thigh injury towards the end of the first-half. Asked about the 27-year-old after the game, Eddie Howe said: "One negative is the injury to Joelinton. He felt his thigh switching play. We don’t know what that looks like yet."
The Mail Online's Craig Hope claims Joelinton's injury will be enough to keep him out against Man City this weekend but it isn't a serious issue. That could suggest a return for the FA Cup fourth round clash against Fulham after the winter break.
Howe is set to be without 10 senior players for the visit of last year's quadruple winners. Man City sit five points behind league leaders Liverpool, while Newcastle are hoping to follow up their derby win by ending a run of three straight league defeats.
