Newcastle United ‘frontrunners’ to sign Manchester United and Spurs target after development

Newcastle United have emerged as one of the frontrunners to sign Christian Eriksen after his odds significantly shortened on Wednesday night.

Eddie Howe’s side went from being priced at 25/1 to 3/1 in less than 24 hours as the 30-year-old weighs up his next club.

Odds have slightly drifted this morning (Thursday) however, with Eriksen currently 5/2 with Sky Bet to make the move to St James’ Park.

The Denmark international has been approached by a clutch of Premier League clubs this summer - including Manchester United and Tottenham - after making a remarkable return to football with Brentford.

Thomas Frank handed his fellow countryman the opportunity to resume his playing career, seven months after Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

And the midfielder repaid Frank’s faith, registering four assists and scoring once during his 11 games in West London.

The Bees have offered Eriksen a contract to extend his initial six-month stay but accept that the player is also considering other options.

Newcastle have been mentioned as a potential suitor and time will time if the sudden drop in bookmakers odds has any substance.

Meanwhile, United are set to confirm Nick Pope as their second summer signing today after Matt Targett’s arrival from Aston Villa.

The England goalkeeper is travelling to the North East for a medical ahead of his move from Burnley. Personal terms have been agreed.
