Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for Arsenal star Kieran Tierney.

The Magpies are on the lookout for new signings this summer after securing a return to the Champions League ahead of next term. Eddie Howe has a number of areas he needs to strengthen ahead of the new campaign, and he should have the money to do it, especially given the added revenue that comes from reaching the Champions League.

One of the areas where Newcastle need more quality is at left-back, where Dan Burn has filled in in the season just gone.

The Magpies are playing the way Howe wants them to from the right, with Kieran Trippier offering offensive output as well as defensive solidarity, but he will need to see the same from the left, particularly given the added challenge of Europe. Arsenal star Tierney is seen as a solution, according to reports, with the Scot likely looking for a new challenge after seeing his game time significantly reduced over the course of last season.

Injuries haven’t helped the Scot, but he has been a little unfortunate to have been replaced at the Emirates Stadium, and he has already proven he is capable of playing for a top six side, and likely a top four side. According to Football Insider, Newcastle are ‘strong favourites’ to land Tierney this summer, claiming Arsenal would be willing to agree a fee of around £35million.

The Gunners paid less than £25million to sign Tierney from Celtic in 2019, but it will be interesting to see whether the player’s determination to move on will impact the eventual fee, given it will reduce Arsenal’s negotiating power. Newcastle are said to be ‘gearing up to make an approach’ either way, and the deal does feel like it would make sense, albeit £35million does seem like a high fee.
