Newcastle United give official response as Kieran Trippier transfer speculation continues

Eddie Howe is determined to keep Kieran Trippier at Newcastle United despite ongoing uncertainty over his future.

English clubs had until 11pm on February 3 to conclude their winter transfer business. However, the Turkish market remains open until Tuesday (February 11) - with Galatasaray understood to be interested.

The Super Lig giants are weighing up a £4million bid to prise the defender from St James' Park. While Trippier’s game time this season has been reduced, he sent a reminder to fans - and Howe - of his talents against Arsenal.

The 34-year-old is Newcastle’s most experienced player and used all that guile to steer his teammates through a tricky Carabao Cup test. Speaking to reporters, Howe candidly spoke about his admiration for Trippier amid the transfer talk.

“No part of us wanted to lose Kieran (in January),” Howe said. “He is unique. There is no one who can do what he can do. His set-play delivery, passing ability and overall leadership are unique.

“The old school leadership where you're talking and communicating with everybody, thinking about the whole team rather than just yourself, is almost a dying art now. He is someone we definitely see hopefully staying and having a big impact in the second half of the season.

I think Kieran showcased all his skills in that game. I think his experience was vital. He's a real calming influence on the team but also a big voice in the team. Kieran has that and he has the big game experience in abundance, so I think he used all his skills to help us and I thought he gave a great performance individually as well.”
