Newcastle United given immediate Eddie Howe clarity as England make managerial decision
The FA are set to announce Lee Carsley as England manager on an interim basis, according to reports.
Newcastle United have been bracing themselves for an Eddie Howe approach since Gareth Southgate resigned last month. Many in the media have urged FA chiefs to appoint the Toon boss, the highest-placed Englishman over the last two seasons.

Howe confirmed last week that his full focus remained on Newcastle ahead of the Premier League season. He said: “My commitment to Newcastle is unwavering and it has been since I came to the football club. As long as I have certain things for me, as in I'm happy, I'm allowed to work in the way I need to work in order to get the best out of me and I feel supported - that will never change."
Sky Sports now claim Carsley is set to take charge temporarily, allowing the FA further time to assess their options. The former Everton midfielder has led the under-21s since 2021 - winning the Euros in Georgia last summer.
His only managerial roles in club football were temporary at Coventry City, Brentford and Birmingham City. But he is now set to be given the ultimate trial next month for English football’s top job.
